Please Help Me To Decide???

Hello Friends~ ~ ~ What a yucky little basket I scored at Good Will for $1.97. I believe it is an older basket and thought it would be perfect for carrying all my produce in from the garden or maybe a pretty flower arrangement??

Here is the sweet thing all cleaned up. It looks good with flowers. Maybe it's trying to tell me something?
Ok Folks, this is where I need your help. This is my dining table. I got it at a second hand shop a few years ago for $150.00, couldn't believe my luck. I love this table but not the color so I want to paint it white. No surprise there, right? This is the question, I can't decide if I should paint the table top also or leave it the natural wood and just paint the legs and the apron?? What's a girl to do? I would really appreciate your opinion here. The graining on the top is beautiful. There are also 2 boards to make it larger and they both have the apron on them also. It's a great table and weighs a ton. So, What do you think?

Now for the score of the weekend. Went to a flea market with my friends and got these plates. I'm so excited I just love them! White poppies on a beautiful background. The young man had one out on the table and when he saw me looking at it said, $15.00 then paused. Now I'm thinking, this plate is so cute if I can get him down to $10 I'll take it. Then he says, I've got 5 more in the van and he proceeds to dig them out and says, You can have all 6 for $15.00! I about passed out.
They looked like RS Prussia so I turned them over and saw the RS in the garland with the star above and Germany printed under it. I believe this is the stamp that followed the Prussia era. Do any of you know about this RS Germany stamp?

Honestly, I don't care if they are worth a good deal of money or not I just really love them. It makes me swoon to see a table set with beautiful china. They are 8 1/2" across and one has a tiny chip on the edge.

Don't they look happy in their new home?

Well your dilemma is an easy one to sort out. Paint only the legs and the apron. See how you like it and then decide.
Personally I wouldn't paint the top.
Your dishes do look right at home there.

I agree with Lori.....

Yup, I think LoriE has it right! That top is beautiful (the whole table is!), and it doesn't sound like you want to paint the top. If it looks odd after some time you can always paint the top as well, but it's a lot harder to go back the other way!
Beautiful plates, and what a bargain! I have no idea about the stamp, though, sorry!

Your new dishes are just stunning. I really love them. Your table is also so pretty. I agree with Lori, I would just paint the legs and apron and leave the top alone. I think it would be beautiful that way. Thanks also for stopping by and leaving such gracious comments. I really appreciate it. Hugs, Marty

I had the very same dilemma with a dining room table I bought from a consignment store. After much deliberation, I ended up only painting the apron and legs. At first I liked it but it didn't take too long before I was wishing I had painted the whole thing. Since it is a minor incovenience now to have it unusable while it's being painted, I've just been keeping it covered with a lace table cloth. My husband will soon be out of town for 3 days and I won't be cooking/serving any big meals (yea!) while he is gone so I might just take this opportunity to paint the top.

As the others said, you can always leave it unpainted for now and paint it later, if you wish.

Love the plates!

Hi!

I think that top is just too pretty to paint! I would go with a creamy white for the base! It's a beautiful table and quite a bargain at the price you paid!

Hi, I agree with Lori about just paining the legs and the edge. I've seen this done a few times and it does look great!

Absolutely a steal - they are gorgeous! As to the table; I would leave it the original color. That pattern would be impossible to replicate and if the table gets a lot of daily use (as dining tables do) white may be too much of a hassle to maintain.

I will step away from the crowd and say paint the entire thing white. I think it would look lovely.
I hope you will come over and check out this weeks Knock off and I bet you have some things you could post to the KNOCK OFF KNOCK OUT Party.

I say paint the legs & if you later decide you want to paint the top, it will be an easy update.

Pretty plates!

Hi Ahrisha,
Thanks for stopping by at my Met. Monday post! Now I'm paying you a return visit, and will chime in with everyone else who thinks you should start with the legs, and then decide about the top on that wonderful table!
It's great to be able to have a choice.... and to be able to change our minds if we want!!
Also, yum that cheesecake is fabulous and I would love the recipe. Will you e-mail it to me?

Thanks for stopping by and visiting my Tech Support post. I purchased a new table that had the legs, apron and chairs a creamy white. The top is wood. If you paint the top, it will chip and you will alway be touching up the top all the time. The top is beautiful.

Those dishes are gorgeous, as is the grain on that table.

Yes, I would agree, just paint the legs and apron, and leave the top natural. The inlaid grain is too lovely to cover over.

I have some Country French tables in my living room done this way (only in a robin's egg blue green) and love them.

The china looks hand painted, what a find!
